The Calcutta High Court has rapped the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal over party MP Tapas Pal. The Judge observed, “It is unfortunate that despite prima facie evidence of Tapas Pal being accused on two counts – making hate speech and carrying fire arms – the police found no case against him.”
Calcutta High Court questioned the state government as to why police did not take action against Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal for his “rape and shoot” remarks though a university teacher was immediately arrested for forwarding an anti-Mamata Banerjee cartoon to some people via e-mail two years ago.
The Judge also said that the people’s representative is expected to follow a code of conduct. In a public rally, Tapas Pal had threatened to send his men to rape women in the opposition.
