A Delhi court has slapped with a fine of Rs 3 lakhs on former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for non-appearance in a defamation case. Ex-Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta has filed a defamation case against Ms Dikshit for making derogatory statement against Bharatiya Janata Party. Ms Dikshit, who had recently resigned as Kerala governor, has lost the immunity she was enjoying being at the coveted post. She has not appeared in the case on several dates. It is the second time she has been fined in the case.
The court had earlier also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Dikshit for her non-appearance. The fine amount was deposited by her in January this year. While imposing the fine on Dikshit today, Metropolitan Magistrate Neha directed that out of Rs three lakh, Rs two lakh be deposited with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Rs one lakh be given to Gupta.
Ms Dikshit shall have to pay the amount of fine by the next date of hearing or she may face the proceedings of being declared as proclaimed offender.
