Justice Rohini, 58, who hails from Visakhapatnam suceeds Justice N V Ramana, who had vacated the position in February following his elevation to the Supreme Court. The former Andhra Pradesh High Court judge was administered the oath of office and allegiance by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
“This symbolises women’s empowerment and of course we need many more role models like her who can inspire young girls across the country to aspire for top positions in all walks of life,” Jung said. Justice Rohini will be the 10th woman judge of the 40 judges in the Delhi high court. Justice G Rohini becomes first woman Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. Prior to being elevated as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Rohini was the seniormost judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Born on April 14, 1955 at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Justice Rohini took a degree in Science in 1976 from the Osmania University and obtained a degree in Law from the College of Law, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. She was enrolled as an advocate on December 18, 1980. After practising for some years, she was appointed as a Government Pleader in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on 12.01.1995 and continued till she was elevated to the Bench. She was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and sworn in as such on 25-06-2001. She was appointed as a Permanent Judge of that High Court on 31-07-2002.
