The Supreme Court today disapproved the selective implementation of the prohibition policy in Kerala.
It directed the Oommen Chandy government not to take coercive steps against over 700 bars operating in 3-star hotels.
A bench headed by Justice Anil R Dave was critical of the state government’s enforcement of the prohibition policy only against three-star hotels and restaurants, while permitting 5-star hotels to run their bars.
The apex court directed the state government not to close down over 700 bars till September 30.
It also directed Kerala High Court to continue the hearing of the petitions challenging the legality of the prohibition policy of the Kerala government.
